Don Ross
www.gobyfish.com
One of today's true innovators of guitar composition and technique, Don Ross has emerged as one of the most respected musicians in Canada and one of the top guitarists in the world.
In September 1996, he managed to do what no other player has done: win the prestigious U.S. National Fingerstyle Guitar Championship for the second time (he first won in 1988). The competition, held yearly in Winfield, Kansas, cannot be won only with immaculate technique, but the player's music must also display a high degree of emotion and intensity, hallmarks of Don's style. Don graduated from the Music Department of Toronto's York University in 1983, but waited until 1986 to start pursuing a career as a performer
Don has spent the last 20 years living in Toronto, New York, Alberta and Massachusetts.
Beppe Gambetta
www.beppegambetta.com
Born in Genoa, Italy,Beppe Gambetta has become one of Europe's foremost guitarists in American idioms. He began by playing in a classical orchestra for plectrum instruments, but moved to American music when he formed the acclaimed Italian bluegrass band Red Wine. Beppe Gambetta is a past recipient of the prestigious Paolo Nuti award, given by the Italian Federation Folkitalia in special recognition of artists who have fulfilled a praiseworthy role in the diffusion of traditional music and culture in Italy. Gambetta has been the reigning acoustic guitar star in Europe for a long time, but his bi-annual trips to the States are making him equally well-known among acoustic aficionados in this country. Pulse! magazine called him an "acoustic-guitar- flatpicking monster" who possesses "superhuman grace on the instrument." Other music pubs have shown less restraint.Along with Carlo Aonzo, mandolin player from La Scala Orchestra in Milan, Beppe has conducted extensive interviews as part of his comprehensive study and revival of the musical forms present in Italy at the start of the twentieth century. The result of this research was the production of two acclaimed albums, Serenata and Traversata (recorded with American mandolin legend David Grisman).
